Why this saint

The Blessed Mother who stood at the foot of the Cross and understands every dimension of grief.

Our Lady of Sorrows is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary that focuses on her sharing in the suffering of Christ and in the grief of those she loves. The Church remembers her seven sorrows, and in that memory she becomes a mother to all who mourn. No sorrow is foreign to her, and no loss is too heavy to place beneath her mantle.

O Sorrowful Mother, I place my {concern} beneath your mantle. Comfort me, stay near me, and pray that I may find hope even in grief. Amen.

Long-form prayer voice

O Most Sorrowful Mother Mary, you who stood at the foot of the Cross and knew the sharpness of grief, I come to you with my {concern}. My heart is heavy, and I do not always know how to carry this sorrow. Wrap your mantle around me. Hold what I cannot hold. Teach me how to remain faithful when the ache does not leave quickly. Pray for the person or loss that is burdening me now, and ask your Son to bring consolation where I cannot create it for myself. Our Lady of Sorrows, mother of all who mourn, pray for me. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
